Casement windows are two separate panes that swing open rather than a single pane that slides open. Before you buy a portable air conditioner with a casement window component, you might have questions about how to properly set up a portable unit using the part.

The portable unit is a rectangular air conditioner that sits vertically on the floor. Each unit comes with an exhaust hose that must be installed onto the back of the unit and to a window when the unit is running a cooling or drying cycle. The unit itself is not installed in a window. When the cooling or dehumidifying function is selected on the air conditioner interface, moisture in the air is sucked into the unit, evaporated and evacuated out of the exhaust hose to the outside air. Weather seal comes in a roll and might feature paper on the sticky side, which needs to be peeled off. After the paper is pealed off, press strips of the weather seal against any openings in the window, until the window is completely sealed, preventing cold air from leaking out of the room.
